Engineered To Be Reliable !!! - Painstakingly designed to last for years in a hard working fabrication shop. The hydraulic cylinder for instance, swivels in a solid CNC machined steel block that pivots exactly at the cylinder's center, preventing side loads on the cylinder's internals. The pusher block, seen in the lower center of the above photo, employs a unique rotating design and a swiveling bronze wear block so that the cylinder will not experience any up or down loading.

Self Locking, Hydraulic Operation !!! - The Model 4 employs a 10 ton single acting spring return cylinder with a stroke of 10" to 14". It operates up to 4000 p.s.i. With the recommended 14" stroke cylinder, 90 degree bends can be accomplished in less than two complete strokes and 180 bends typically require only three strokes. The 10" stroke cylinder requires three strokes for a 90 degree bend and usually five for a 180 degree bend. During bending, neither the die set nor the workpiece needs to be reset or touched in any way until the bending operation is complete. Using the spring loaded anti-springback lever, the Model 4 will lock the workpiece in position when the cylinder needs to be advanced to the next stroke position, therefore not allowing the workpiece to relax or shift in the bender. This makes possible much tighter radius bends in thinner wall material then can be accomplished on competing benders. Using a 14" stroke cylinder, the first bend stroke can be up to approximately 60 degrees. The second stroke will go to approximately 126 degrees. Bending speed is dependent upon the strength of the material being bent. Usually 6 to 10 degrees of bend per second will be realized. The 14" stroke cylinder takes 8 to 9 seconds to return from full extension. Add it all up and a typical 90 degree bend will take an effortless 20 to 25 seconds, depending on the operator's skill level. Note: Since the pump and cylinder used in the Model 4 is extremely popular, you may already have them. If so you wouldn't need to purchase these items. The Model 4 Bender can be mounted to this optional stand. Heavy duty, 36 inch tall, can be bolted to a concrete floor.

Note: In the description column, the numbers in the parenthesis [ ex: (6.5-180) ] designate the die set's center line radius and maximum normal degree of bend. In the example above the (6.5-180) would designate a die set with a center line radius of 6.5" and would be capable of producing a complete 180 degree bend. As of 2003, all Model 4 Bender die sets are manufactured as 180 degree styles. The "Center Line Radius" is the bend radius as measured from the center rotation point of the die to the middle of the tubing. The 'Minimum Wall Thickness' column represents the minimum wall thickness for consistent high quality wrinkle free bends. Wall thicknesses less than .083" may require an anti-springback block added to the followbar to help limit springback and prevent wrinkling. All die sets will bend up to .120" wall. Greater wall thicknesses may be bent with the smaller O.D. tubing and pipe up to the maximum power of the bender.

Metric and custom die sets are available and are priced closely to comparable size of inch series tooling.

Unfortunately, due to the extreme increases in the price of steel, as of 6/1/2008 we have been forced to raise some of our prices between 5 and 20%. We held off as long as we could. Let's all hope steel prices stabilize soon.

Shown bending 1 1/2" x .095" wall tubing to a 4 1/2" radius. On the right is the hydraulic pump control. All links are 3/4" thick CNC machined steel. Complete with pump the Model 4 weighs 225 lbs. The pedestal is optional.

  




In the lower left corner of the picture above you can see the anti-springback lever. It is spring loaded and prevents the workpiece from moving when the hydraulic cylinder is being re-positioned for the next stroke.



In the top two pictures above can be seen the pusher block with its bronze pivot block. The handle makes re-positioning the hydraulic ram fast and easy. The average cylinder retract and re-position time is approximately 8-10 seconds. With the 2 HP pump the Model 4 bender strokes 60 degrees in 6-10 seconds.


The Model 4 is shown above in its retracted state. With a 14" stroke cylinder, it can bend approximately 60 degrees in one shot. After the ram extends the anti-springback lever automatically engages to prevent the workpiece from moving.
